Water Pollution Facts


  • 1.2 trillion gallons of stormwater, untreated sewage, and industrial waste are dumped into American waters every year. That is 100 billion gallons a month.
  • 80% of ocean pollution comes from land-based activities
  • Plastic waste in costal areas kill 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine animals annually
  • Asian rivers are the most polluted in the world
  • Soap and dirt can ended up from washing your cars to going untreated in a stream
  • Half of the world has to deal with polluted drinking water

  1. Sewer drains should post where they flow to so people know if it goes to a source of water. Also people need to be educated that if they pour car oil, leaves, grass cuttings, soap etc down a storm drain where it goes and how it impacts our environment.
